WFAS - Severe Fire Danger Mapping System Learn more

These data are produced daily by the Wildland Fire Assessment system using information from the National Weather Service National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD) and the Weather Information Management System (WIMS) to produce daily forecasts of fire potential across the continental US.

ERC Spatial Preparedness Level (SPL) are based on daily forecasts of Energy Release Component (ERC), normalized to percentiles, and categorized into five percentile class: SPL 1: Less than the 58th percentile, SPL 2: 58-78, SPL 3, 79-92, SPL 4, 92-97, SPL 5 > 97th percentile

BI Fire Behavior Potential (FBP) are based on daily forecasts of Burning Index (BI), normalized to percentiles, and categorized into five percentile class: FBP 1: Less than the 58th percentile, FBP 2: 58-78, FBP 3, 79-92, FBP 4, 92-97, FBP 5 > 97th percentile
